HMRC’s list of software for your Self Assessment return
If you are sending your Self Assessment return for the 2025 to 2026 tax year online, it is due by 31 January 2027. You can send the return through HMRC’s online service, through an accountant, or with commercial software, and HMRC publishes a list of the commercial software that can send the return. This page sets out that list in one table, with HMRC’s own answers for each supplier.
Every answer in the table is HMRC’s. GOV.UK last updated the list on 23 October 2026, and we read it on 31 October 2026. The list may have changed since then, so if a product matters to you, HMRC’s own page will have the latest version.
HMRC’s three software lists
HMRC keeps three separate lists of software, one for each kind of return, and a place on one of them says nothing about the other two. If you are checking whether software is on “HMRC's list”, it helps to look at the list for the return you are sending.
This is the list for Making Tax Digital for Income Tax. HMRC builds its software finder from it and describes the finder like this:
“Use this tool to help you find software that meets your needs for Making Tax Digital for Income Tax.”
Our counts come from HMRC’s commit of 30 October 2026, which we read on 1 November 2026.
HMRC's Self Assessment software list
This page
This is the list for the yearly Self Assessment return, and HMRC opens it with this sentence:
“Commercial software suppliers can submit one or more elements of the tax return and supplementary pages to HMRC.”
GOV.UK last updated it on 23 October 2026, and we read it on 31 October 2026.
HMRC's Corporation Tax software list
This is the list for a company’s tax return, and HMRC explains who is on it like this:
“The commercial software and service suppliers listed in this guidance have given evidence that they’ve developed software or manage a service (or both), that can produce one or more elements of a Company Tax Return.”
GOV.UK last updated it on 12 October 2026, and we read it on 13 October 2026.
How this list differs from the MTD software list
This is HMRC’s list for the yearly Self Assessment return. HMRC keeps a separate list of software for Making Tax Digital for Income Tax, which covers quarterly updates and the tax return under MTD. MTD for Income Tax did not apply to the 2025 to 2026 tax year, so the return due on 31 January 2027 goes to HMRC in the usual way, and nothing on this list says whether a product can send MTD quarterly updates. For that, the page on every product on HMRC’s MTD software list sets out what HMRC’s MTD list says, and the guide to MTD and your January return explains why the two years overlap.
In HMRC’s words
HMRC opens its list with these three sentences:
“Commercial software suppliers can submit one or more elements of the tax return and supplementary pages to HMRC.”
“In each case HMRC will accept valid tax returns, supplementary pages and attachments for the products listed.”
“HMRC cannot recommend or endorse any one product or service over another and will not be responsible for any loss, damage, cost or expense in connection with using this software.”
HMRC did not prepare this page, and Acrenvo is independent of HMRC.
What HMRC’s list held on 23 October 2026
The list named 52 suppliers, and 44 of them are open to individuals, either because HMRC answers “Yes” under “For individuals” or because HMRC lists at least one of their products as for individuals or for both. Software for the individual return (SA100) is listed by 49 suppliers.
Six suppliers list a product we compare in more depth, and that product’s name in the table links to our page on it. The other suppliers show HMRC’s names and answers only, because we have not reviewed their products and have nothing to add to what HMRC’s list says.
Reading the table
Each answer is HMRC’s, copied as HMRC gives it. Where the table shows “No” under “For agents” or “For individuals”, that is HMRC’s answer for the supplier, and the supplier is the one to ask about anything else. A few large suppliers answer for each product instead, so their products show HMRC’s “For agents or individuals” answer.
“Schedules supported” lists the supplementary pages a product can send, in HMRC’s words. GOV.UK describes the SA105 pages like this: “Use supplementary pages SA105 to record UK property income on your SA100 Tax Return.” The UK property pages chip shows the suppliers with an individual return product that, in HMRC’s words, supports “All” schedules, “All except” some that do not include SA105, or names SA105 in its list.
Some suppliers also list a trust return (SA900). The table notes it under the supplier’s name, and the CSV file does the same.
The suppliers, in HMRC’s order
From HMRC’s Commercial software suppliers for Self Assessment, last updated on GOV.UK on 23 October 2026 and read on 31 October 2026. HMRC does not endorse Acrenvo or any product in its list.

Questions about HMRC’s Self Assessment software list
When is the Self Assessment return for the 2025 to 2026 tax year due?
If you send your return for the 2025 to 2026 tax year online, it is due by 31 January 2027. MTD for Income Tax did not apply to the 2025 to 2026 tax year, so that return goes to HMRC in the usual way. The guide to MTD and your January return explains why the two years overlap.
Is this the same list as HMRC's MTD software list?
HMRC's Self Assessment software list and its MTD software list are separate lists. This one is for the yearly Self Assessment return, and nothing on it says whether a product can send MTD quarterly updates. For that, the page on every product on HMRC's MTD software list sets out what HMRC's MTD list says.
How can I tell whether a product sends the UK property pages?
Look at “Schedules supported”, which lists the supplementary pages a product can send, in HMRC's words. GOV.UK describes the SA105 pages like this: “Use supplementary pages SA105 to record UK property income on your SA100 Tax Return.” The UK property pages filter on this page shows the suppliers with an individual return product that supports “All” schedules, “All except” some that do not include SA105, or names SA105 in its list. Where a supplier lists one of the products we compare, its name links to our page on it.
How many suppliers are on HMRC's Self Assessment software list?
The version GOV.UK last updated on 23 October 2026 named 52 suppliers. 44 of them are open to individuals, either because HMRC answers “Yes” under “For individuals” or because HMRC lists at least one of their products as for individuals or for both. The same list is in the open data API, with the date we read it.

Every row is also in a CSV file of HMRC’s Self Assessment software list, with one line for each product under each return, suppliers in the same order, and on every line the GOV.UK page, the date GOV.UK updated it and the date we read it. The same list is in the open data API as /api/v1/sa-software-suppliers.json.
Source and licence
The table comes from HMRC’s Commercial software suppliers for Self Assessment page on GOV.UK. It contains public sector information licensed under the Open Government Licence v3.0. We copied each supplier’s and product’s name exactly as HMRC gives it, with HMRC’s answers.
HMRC’s page also links to each supplier’s website, which we leave out, so that a product we have not reviewed is never linked from here. If a supplier interests you, HMRC’s page and the supplier’s own site will have the latest details.
