Deadlines calendar
See the MTD filing dates for the tax year you need.
MTD has standard and calendar update periods. The filing deadlines are the same for both, but the period covered by each cumulative update is different. Choose the tax year and the period system used in your software to put the dates in the right context.
Which update periods are you using?
Standard periods are the default. Calendar periods only apply if you choose them in your software before your first update for the tax year.
| Period | Due |
|---|---|
| 6 Apr to 5 Jul 2026 | 07 Aug 2026 |
| 6 Apr to 5 Oct 2026 | 07 Nov 2026 |
| 6 Apr 2026 to 5 Jan 2027 | 07 Feb 2027 |
| 6 Apr 2026 to 5 Apr 2027 | 07 May 2027 |
| Tax return for the 2026/27 tax year | 31 Jan 2028 |
Quarterly-update deadlines repeat on 7 August, 7 November, 7 February and 7 May. Each update is cumulative from the start of the selected period system. You must choose calendar periods in your software before the first update for that tax year. The tax return remains due by 31 January after the end of the relevant tax year; payment dates sit separately and are not changed by the period system you use.
If you are trying to understand what happens when one of these dates slips, the penalties guide explains what can be charged, what is paused for now, and what still needs to be filed.
Gas safety, electrical reports, licences and the Renters’ Rights Act run on a different set of dates. The landlord compliance tracker keeps those reminders separately for each property.
